East Hampton Beach Skyline and Terrain

I’ve been toying with the idea of an East Hampton sims neighborhood for a while. In-fact, I had already made a rudimentary vacation version, but the lack of skyboxes to match weren’t up to my standards (ie. I wanted a beach, not an island). Also, my SimCity4 terrain needed some work for the conversion to beaches. I also regretted it being a vacation hood not a subhood, because I’d rather have sims be able to live there. I like the idea of part-time rich elites mingling with full-time “townies”. This could really be used for any beach-lot, but I’ve made it for my East Hampton lot. I’m also including the download for the terrain, if you’d like to use them together. I’d be lying if I didn’t say that this project was inspired by two things: a long time love of Gossip Girl, and a weird twisted view of New York scenery and media.

The project concept is based off of East Hampton, and I chose a landmark that I liked. My personal subhood even has placed golf courses where there are ones in real life.

I did a bunch of versions of the skybox with a city background, and I could never get it to line up perfectly (the buildings kept getting crooked, and I didn’t want to edit the skybox after doing polar coordinates. Long story short, it’s hard to measure angles from straight to spherical).

How to install the terrain

Unzip the file.

The file goes in Documents> EA Games> Sims 2> SC4Terrains

After it’s placed here, it should show up when you click the “add custom” option for a neighborhood. I suggest a shopping district for maximum applications, but it can work for anything you like.

You can see which lots make beach placements here. The actual “use as beach” plots are mostly in the middle.

An important lesson I learned during the SimCity4 to Sims2 conversion is that beaches really suck to get right. There were like 20 files before finally settling on this one. You can play around a bit in the game where you add beaches/lots to get a flatter shoreline. However, this is pretty much as close to “full beach coverage” as I could get after many attempts.

Here’s the skyline.

You can find it under misc. hood deco.

The sky is either from Lowdeus or iCad. I use these mods interchangeably. I used GreatCheeseCakePersona’s file as a template for the horizon. If you’ve never installed skies before, please familiarize yourself with them. You can get a lot of great starter stuff here: Sancta Sanctorum – The Great Sky of Totalitarianism (REDUX) REDUX… (tumblr.com)

How to install

IMPORTANT – have the sky fix mod: SkyFix – simNopke (tumblr.com)

Ensure you have a sky to go with it. I like the ones from iCad:

iCad’s Simblr Thingy (tumblr.com)

Put the file in your downloads folder. It will be under Misc in the hood tools once you’re in game.

Place, and your sky/clouds of choice, at edges of hoods. You can line them up to get your desired edges.

Special thanks to GreatCheeseCakePersona because their guides were completely necessary for this project.

The file is zipped.

I've been playing The Sims since 2004. I've played every iteration, but the Sims 2 will always remain as my very favourite. I'm passionate about getting others involved in playing the Sims 2 and sharing my stories, as well as trying my hand at CC. But, I also love the other Sims games (Castaway Stories anybody?)
